1 Chapter one

Brei was suppose to move in to her new apartment the day before, but the moving company had mixed up their schedule. So here she was moving into a new apartment on a Monday morning. She carried the box that had "novels" scribbled on it, as the men struggled with the others.

She has been living with her parents for the past 23 years of her life, even went to the same college her dad lectured at. Months back she decided it was time she got her own apartment and experience full independency, her mum wasn't in support at first, she was the last child. Her elder sister, Elle was already married with two kids, her immediate elder brother, Dave who was older with just two years moved out the moment he graduated high school and has been sharing a flat with his best friend since then.

While Brei understood her mum, she couldn't live with her for the rest of her life. Her family had a really close relationship but her mum was one of those mum's that didn't understand privacy.

"Please carry that carefully" she told one of the guys as they walked to the elevator, he was carrying the box with all her vinyl records which was mostly BTS and Michael Jackson.

Her apartment was in the fourth floor, each hall had six apartments. She had checked it out with her best friend Jody and they both liked it cause the size was perfect, and the former occupant was really neat, the wallpapers suited Brei's taste enough for her to not change them and it was completely affordable and the view was beautiful. The view from the bedroom balcony oversea the lights of their beautiful city, one of the things Brei have always enjoyed staring at.

"Thanks.." Brie says as the moving company guys helps her with the last set of boxes. She exhales looking around, moving to a new place wasn't easy at all, now she had to arrange everything herself, Jody was on a lunch date with her boyfriend's parent and her other close friend Maxine works for a finance firm, she had plan on coming over to help during her lunch break but Brie had ask her not to bother. She hated being a bother to those around her.

"Okay, let's get to work" she says to herself.

Two hours later, she was stuck trying to range her books on the shelve in the bedroom by the author's names, she kept mistaking the letters or forgetting one or two books.

"Brie! Brei! Why'd you leave the door open" Jody was calling from the living room. "How is she here" Brie thought rushing to the living room.

"Babe, are you done with the lunch date"

"His grandma was rushed to the hospital, there's no lunch date" Jody says, looking unbothered

"Hope it isn't very bad" Jody shrugges as she takes a sit in one of the bean bag sofa Brie had set up.

"She's like hundred Brie, Adam isn't even bothered but you know… family" she says, Brie smiles, of course it hurts when old people dies, but it's expected.

"I didn't believe before today that I could do all this myself" Brie says feeling proud of herself. Jody chuckles.

"Are you done already?" Brie shakes her head no.

"Can you help me set up the washing machine, there's already one here but it's disconnected I don't know how it works."

Without hesitating Jody locates the washing machine in the small utility room, she was good with these sort of things after growing up with 4 boys. Brie went back to arranging her books, these time she decided to use their tittles, it was easier.

"Brie" someone called her name, it wasn't a loud voice, it was like a whisper and it didn't sound like Jody. Brie quickly looked around the bedroom but there was no one and she went back to what she was doing.

"Brie" Jody called from the bedroom door. "Should I order pizza?"

"Yes. No experimenting please" Jody laughs, she was always trying to order something new and weird everytime they ordered pizza.

"You're no fun"

"I'm sorry that I'm trying to protect my health" Brie states

"No one dies from trying out new toppings on their pizza" Jody argued.

"Jody… the regular toppings please" Jody rolls her eyes as she leaves the room.

Before the delivery guy came, they were both done with the arrangement. she didn't have much furnitures since she has always live with her parents so it was easy to put the apartment in order. She had ordered a small plasma on Amazon and a sound bar, Elle had supported with money to order the furnitures. Brie worked as a social media manager and analyst, so unlike her friends she worked from home majorly.

"Maxine sent a text, she won't be able to make it today, she's working late" Jody says as she typed away on her phone with one hand while holding a pizza on another. Just then Brie phone started ringing, blasting BTS black swan in the quiet room.

"Mum" she says answering the call

"Did Dave come over to help you"

"Mum I told you he doesn't have to come over. I'm done anyways" Dave was probably busy with something more important.

"So no one helped you? I told you to allow your dad and I join you but you're way too stubborn. Hope you didn't break any of my plates" Brie chuckles, her mum was such a drama queen, it was a Monday and her dad has lectures why should she stress the old man.

"I thought they're now my plates"

"Doesn't mean you can break them" Brie chuckles, Jody gives her a questioning looks.

"Jody's here, she helped"

"Annie I'm here.. you know I'll always pull through for Brie, she's my baby" Jody adds with a smile. Brie puts the call on speaker phone.

"Jody, thanks so much. I thought you were meeting with Adam's family" Jody and Maxine were like daughters to her mum too, they talked to her a lot cause she was around for such boy talks.

"His grandma was rushed to the hospital, so we had to cancel"

"Well everything happens for a reason"

They talk for another minute before hanging up, her mum notifies her that she ordered a blanket for her which was funny cause Brie already had too many blankets, why would she need more. Jody stays for almost an hour before finally leaving.

Brie spends the next few minutes in silence as she just looked around the place, she was so lucky she didn't have to fix the walls or change the wallpapers, the former occupant had really great taste that matched hers and it was obvious how neat he or she kept their environment. After a while Brie decided to take a shower, she needed to rest , she had promise to help Ellen babysit her kids the next day.

"...skate to me baby...skate" Brie sang horribly to herself as she stood under the shower. "... Slide your way on…" Brie stops immediately as she noticed a figure outside the shower unit which was now foggy, but she was sure someone was outside.

"What the fuck!... Who's there? Jody?" She calls, her heart racing, she was sure she bolted the door. The figure moves slightly, it was a person. Brie looks around scared, there was nothing she could hold to protect herself and her towel was outside the shower unit.

"Who's there?" She calls again steadying her breath as she plans to make a run for it, the stranger seeing her naked was the least of her worries right now, if she could run fast, she could quickly get to her phone which was sitted on the counter in the bathroom, she had Dave on speed dial.

"Who the fuck are you" she yells as she stepped out of the shower unit.

"What the ….."

"I'm so sorry….." she and the strange guy said at the same time.
