Unexpected Events

Nurmengard, Germany, 1952

Somewhere in the Alps of Germany, devoid of civilization, a place overrun by wildlife, was a castle whose towers and battlements stretched into the clouds, obscuring vision.

Several of its chambers oddly resembled prison cells, for it was indeed one. It was this prison that trapped the infamous dark lord, feared by the entire western civilisation. It was inescapable, or so people liked to  believe.

A middle aged man with blonde hair, gaunt face, that  once might have been handsome, stood tall. An incredible majesty emanated from him, inspiring respect and admiration. Kneeling in front of him were a trio, wearing German Auror uniforms! They were the very aurors responsible for guarding the dark lord

" My lord, the guards have been neutralized, and the German ministry is distracted by  some of the others."  One of the men spoke, with barely audible excitement.

"You have come."  A soft but authoritative voice spoke. "But I'm afraid, breaking free now, won't  serve our purpose."

"Dei Fuhrer!" Three voices sounded at once.

"Do not be disheartened, for not all hope is lost. I have seen a vision of the future." He gazed out of the window seemingly observing the lakes frozen surface. " But for it to come to fruition, I must stay here, trapped, a few more decades." If a muggle were to hear this, no doubt they would disparage it as an old man's ramblings, but no wizard would dare think so.

"Then what are your instructions my lord" one of them spoke.

"Tomorrow, the world shall hear 'Aurors prevented the escape of Gellert Grindelwald, and captured a group of saints who launched an assault on Numenguard'."

" You, on the other hand, will expand our forces in secret." The dark lord turned his gaze towards his subordinates. His bright blue eyes seemingly gazed at their soul. "Action is not to be taken until I command. Is that understood!" A majestic and unfathomable breath immediately  spread all around them. The three, could hardly breath under the immense pressure.

"Y-yes, my lord!" They understood. It was both a demonstration and a warning.

Stonebarrow, 29th June, 1988

Not far from the main residential area of stonebarrow town, but through a fence, up a small hill, on an overgrown path through the woods, where three children. The sky was no longer bright and the presence of tall trees, all around them was doing little to improve their situation. They could find themselves in trouble If the matron at St. Hedwig's orphanage notices that their absence during dinner, but it didn't seem to deter their stroll.

Edmund was in the lead, fearless as always of the dangers involved, in what some might call adventurous acts. The twins trudging slightly behind  him on the other hand couldn't hide their nervousness on this reckless endeavor that Edmund seems to engage himself in. He, of course knew about his companions concerns, but he couldn't bring himself to care. His bright blue eyes wondered through the foliage hoping to find what he was here for.

Rand Bryan on the other hand was wondering how badly his sister Lisa and he would be punished for staying out late. But he also didn't want to disturb Edmund. Although he wouldn't admit it, he was much more terrified of Edmund than the matron ever would be. Two years ago when Edmund had just been left off at the orphanage, many thought that he would be easy to pick on but soon that view was completely overturned. A boy named Ryan was the first one to provoke him, only to have ended up in the hospital with a few broken bones a few days later. Back then everyone believed it was a coincidence.

Later, they witnessed every person who targeted Edmund ended up with some sort of accident. From then on Edmund became an untouchable existence among the younger orphans. Initially the other children were ready to give up their meager valuables to the new heavyweight, but to everyone's relief Edmund only asked for more food and nothing else. Even so no one saw him as weak. He instead became somewhat of a mystery among the orphans.

A fair bit of time had passed and the sun was barely visible over the horizon. This only made it harder to see and finding their way through the undergrowth covered path even more difficult. He looked over at Lisa who seemed compliant and eager on the surface but only he knew that it was an act or so he thought .Just when he couldn't take it anymore and was about to suggest leaving, Edmund spoke.

"You both can leave now. " He intoned dryly without even looking back.

"What about you?" Lisa stepped forward " Aren't you coming with us?"

"No" He turned his head slightly and looked over his shoulder. "I have something to take care of. Don't worry about me" A bright smile hung on his face that looked oddly charming even in the dim surroundings.

His sandy blond hair that was cut exactly right and combed just too perfectly for people to mistake him for a child star, ready for his show.He had high cheekbones and an overall regal appearance.

He didn't have any feelings for these two. They used him for protection, while he used them to do his chores. A transactional business and they knew it. Those two keep putting a facade of being his loyal followers but he knew better. He could feel their emotions crystal clear all the time. If not, he likely would have been fooled.

Humans are superficial creatures and a handsome face with good manners was enough for him to be let off from most punishments. The only one he couldn't manage to charm was the old matron in charge of the orphanage, someone you would consider the epitome of fairness, but even she ever so subtly charmed that he would get simpler punishments than the other kids.

Edmund trekked deeper into the woods without waiting for his 'friends' reply, leaving the other to deal with their immediate...…situation.

   The Avesaurus

Edmund lay, hidden, behind a group of shrubs, observing the surroundings. He was at the edge of the forest cover, further ahead was a stream gushing with water. A few days ago he had seen a strange creature, drinking water from the stream. It had a chicken's head, leathery wings and lizard like tail. He was extremely curious of its origin. It was a special existence. Just like him!

He could make various things happen around him if he wished to. When he was younger it used to be out of his control, But as he grew up he learnt to steadily control it. Now he could do it with just a thought.

One of his most useful ability was to know what others where thinking. But because of it, when he was much younger a lacked control, he found being near large number of people unbearable. But over the years he had improved his control. Now he was able to shut of others thoughts with some conscientious effort.

For the past few days he had been coming here, so that he could get a glimpse of the creature once more. If possible, learn more about its origin. He had a vague hope that in this way he might be able to know more about his own powers. It had almost become his obsession recently. But after nearly a week of waiting in the say time, he had decided to change his strategy and watch after dusk.

The sun had completely set and it likely had been almost an hour since He got here. Dinner would start in half an hour. Disappointed as he was, he decided it was time for him to leave. He began to move  – but then froze.

He wasn't alone in the area. He could hear the ruffling of leaves coming from the canopy. Edmund spotted a blur. It travelled quickly through the foliage and landed on the banks of the opposite shore.

There stood a half bird half lizard creature. It was the size of a huge hunting dog owned by a few townsfolk. It had long legs that ended in sharp claws and huge leathery wings similar to a bat. Its tail resembled a lizards while its head was that of a cock.

Edmund observed in silence as it gracefully drank from the stream. 'Its emerald green scales look beautiful' thought Edmund, it was somehow fascinating and spotlessly clean, despite it's environment. He wanted to approach it, but wasn't sure if it would react well to it. He had been with other animals of course, but they were different. He had certain control over them–another one of his quirks. This one though, was so different from those common creatures that he, for the first time, doubted the effect of his abilities.

While Edmund was contemplating over his future actions, the Avesauras, for that's what he decided to call it after aves(bird) and saurus(lizard), quickly took off into the distance. As he noted  the direction in which the avesaurus left, 'What to do' he wondered. But he didn't get to continue in that line of thought, for he was suddenly reminded of how late it was.

If one where to observe woods, they would see a shadowy figure rush down the wooded mountain path, through the broken portion of the fence and headed straight to the orphanage, not stopping for a second at the shabby and dingy streets of stonebarrow town
