1 Bestfriends

Josh Hudson.

6"2 star player of Lawson's Football Club. The most talented striker to emerge from this century commentors gloated. A handsome guy with a promising future and a smile that has your insides melting like butter. The perfect guy really if you took out the one factor that drew the ire of every girl who talked to him.

Cassidy Reyes. "The bestfriend."

He is loyal to her without a fault. How could he not when she was the one constant in his life since his elementary school days. They met at recess when this little bucked tooth ball of fire walked up to Josh and demanded he helped her get on the jungle gym. Josh swore his heart skipped a beat at that moment. It didn't take long for them to become inseparable.

They played together, walked home together and fought the same bullies together. Hell they even showered together. A memory they promised to never bring up for as long as they live.

Some people would tell you that the duo were only friends while others would disagree wholeheartedly. Their seemingly innocent touches and lingering gaze told a different story to what they claimed to be. Josh wasn't one to hold back his affection for Cassidy, his best friend and family, even if it was not be blood. He couldn't help the fond look he gave her when she did something cute or the forehead kisses that became commonplace in their friendship.

_Cassidy is my drug_ he thought with sigh. He didn't really care if people thought they were an item. Years of being under the scrutiny of the town had hardened his skin towards gossip and hushed whispers. Cassidy Reyes was his lifeline. It felt wrong to refer to her as just Cassidy when she was so much more. His bestfriend, his present and his future. He hoped to give her the world one day.

Josh is just a friend.

The famous line spoken by Cassidy when their friendship is questioned. She loves him, platonically of course. How can she not when he always ensure that she is happy and safe. He'd go out of his way to make her comfortable.

"Why are you always going above and beyond for me Josh?" She asked during one of their sleep overs. She was wrapped in his arms and held as if she was precious cargo. Something he always did since they were little.

"How could I not Angel," he muttered with a soft smile. "I told you; you're my lifeline. If you're happy I'm happy, if you're sad I'm sad. Your pain is mine and I'd do anything to keep you safe. This world doesn't deserve you love and honestly I don't either. If I can't go above and beyond for you then what kind of best friend would I be?"

Cassidy cried that night, promising herself that no matter what she'd keep her selfless best friend a constant in her life. The fact that he had to gall to look as if what he had said wasn't anything impressive had her wondering what she had done to have him in her life.

"You're an absolute angel Joshua Hudson." Cassidy laughed before she went to bed with dried tear streaks on her face.

It didn't take long before the duo found themselves riddled with new unexplainable feelings that had their hearts throbbing in trepidation.

_If Josh is just a friend then why does my stomach fall at the mere thought of Stacy Pendleton clutching onto him with her sleezy claws?_ Cassidy thought with furrowed brows.
